About

Luke Smith is a freelance director and cinematographer based in Sydney.

Luke’s work has exhibited at galleries like ACMI and aired on national television. His commercial clients include Tooheys, Volkswagen, Louis Vuitton, and Qantas, where he worked full time for several years establishing the airline’s video department. He is best known for the cult hit mockumentary Redfern Electrical, which he directed, shot, edited, and co-wrote.

Born in rural Queensland, Luke cut his teeth filming skate videos with friends. To hone his skills, he moved to Sydney to study digital media and complete a camera traineeship with Channel Nine. Since then, he has gone on to film everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to the London Olympics and Australia’s red centre. But his work still embodies the same ethos today as it did when he first picked up a camera: honesty, authenticity, and documenting the beauty in the every day.
